obligatory halloween post...

[[[[[[[[[This will be a brief, despite the fact it has almost been (eek) 6 months since I have posted on here! I have so much to share, so check back soon]]]]]]]]
In extremely obvious news today is Halloween and here are the reasons why it's my most favoritest holiday.
GOOD GOURD
Photos courtesy of the bee-you-tee-full Cat Carty. Doesn't the top one look like the cover for our bluegrass crossover smash album?

My friend Amber and I shoved some kids out of the way to get in this pic.
My carvings were a bit abstract in theme - I did post-'punk'ins; a Siouxsie Sioux, a Clash London Calling silhouette, and a teeny one wearing a homemade Devo hat. Unfortunately,  I didn't snap a pic of them in time and they collapsed in on themselves (insert reference about post-punk's demise).

But here's a short I shot and edited for my documentary workshop. It's got some nice pumpkin imagery if you're into that type of thing.

I thought I was creative with my carving... image [via].

DRESSING
Last year I wore full makeup and went for a bit intense and scary full makeup look;

Repeating this look on Dia de los Muertos this year.
This year's inspiration:

Such a fun cheap costume - I made the hat from some posterboard, and the beard from a wig purchased at Goodwill.
Four Coors and Seven Beers ago.... [check later back for more pics]

I had a few more ideas if you're still searching for that last-minute inspiration:
  1. Wear a plaid shirt backwards and a cowboy hat: Reverse Cowgirl!
  2. Ramones t-shirt and feather headdress: Punk-ahontas.
  3. Group idea: Dress as sexy Lenin, Marx, Trotsky, Castro... you're a communist party!
  4. Devil Horns, mustache & glasses... Devil in Disguise.
  5. Gratuitious Arrested Development Reference: Kooky clothes and a bracelet that reads MRF.
TRICKS N TREETS
For the second year I'm attending the 'Dead Rocker's Show' at East End. Although the weekend was a blast, the best spooky times are to be had tonight. The 'surprise' guest is coincidentally the man responsible for the music in the above video...
You'll have to come to East End or watch to figure out who the surprise guest is.

As far as treats go, I am sorely tempted to whip up a diabetic coma in a glass ala Sandra Lee:

thanks for the find KD.

Halloween is the beginning of the end. The Christmas decorations are already up in stores, and the weather is turning. I love this holiday. I don't want it or this amazing year to end. I just want to eat mini-Almond Joys and wear crazy fake eyelashes for a week or two before Thanksgiving break.

The way of life can be free and beautiful.

Here's the first project I have completed for my documentary class.

what's your [protest] sign? from Elle Beezy on Vimeo.

I feel so proud to have been at the march in Portland with over 5,000 other people. While the goals of the movement seem confused at times, everyone there shared the need for change. When it comes to politics. often I feel cynical and am generally apathetic. But I feel hope and excitement seeing what's happening across the country and the world.

Today's post title comes from the speech in the Charlie Chaplin film "The Great Dictator." I first heard it on Chances With Wolves, and it speaks to anyone who feels a disconnect because of the greed that separates us as people.

Please give it and CWW a listen. In the show the DJs discuss what the movement means to them and what rights we should be fighting for. And they play some amazing music.
